The team was started in August 2004 when I entered my first contest here in my hometown, Paola, KS. I cooked solo, didn't do very good, but got all four entries turned in, and had a great time. I went on to cook one more contest that year in DeSoto, KS. Early in 2005 I met Eric from Spring Hill, KS. and we formed our partnership in the team. We cooked 13 contests in 2005.

Our highlights of 2005 were receiving awards for 8 top ten finishes including first place in chicken at Laurie, MO (78 teams) and 2nd place in brisket at the American Royal(474 teams) to top it off.

2006 brought exciting times and improvement. We started somewhat slow our first few contests, but went on to finish with 26 top ten finishes in the four categories, and 9 top tens overall. Highlights were finishing 3rd out of 51 at Cabela's KC, 28th out of 486 at the American Royal, and Grand Champion out of 95 at Shawnee, KS.

2007 was a good year. No Grand Championships, but in the 16 contests we competed at we received 30 calls to the stage for top 10 awards overall or in a category. We again placed well at the American Royal at 38th overall out of 470 teams and received calls to the stage for our 5th place chicken and 5th place sausage!

2008 sure was fun! We cooked 18 contests and placed in the top 10 overall in 14 and in the top 15 in 17 of the 18 contests. We finished in the top 10 in the main categories 37 times, including 1 win in chicken, 2 in ribs, 2 in pork, and 1 in brisket.
Major highlights were finishing 15th overall out of 459 teams in the American Royal, our 3 Reserve Grand Champion awards and our Grand Champion finish at Butler, MO.

2009 - We cooked 21 contests and placed in the top 10 in 14 of them.  We had wins in all 4 categories including chicken, ribs, pork, and brisket. Highlights include our Reserve Grand Championships in Marshalltown, IA, Harrisonville, MO, Hot Springs, AR, and our Grand Championships in Garnett, KS and Iola, KS. Our 6th place finish out of 473 teams at the American Royal was a big hit also. 

We cook contests using our 2 Backwoods  Smoker competitor models. Both are equipped with BBQ Guru DigiQ II's for precise temperature control.
